Avon's Memorial Day Tradition Steps Off Monday, May 27
2024's Avon Memorial Day Parade will be the 79th edition of the event.

AVON, CT — A beloved tradition of honoring the men and women who died serving their country will take place in Avon on Monday, May 27.
The town's 79th annual Memorial Day Parade will occur at 11 a.m. starting at the Avon Board of Education Annex, 34 Simsbury Road.

"We encourage all veterans to join us and march in the parade. Cars are available for Veterans needing a ride," wrote Avon VFW Post 3272 in an announcement.
After stepping off, marchers will head south on routes 10/202 to the intersection of Route 10/202 and Route 44.

It will then take a right onto Route 44 (West Main Street) heading west and it will end at the corner of Route 44 and Ensign Drive at the Avon Town Green.
A ceremony at the Veterans' Memorial will be on the green following the parade.
"The public is invited to spectate the parade and attend the ceremony as well. We expect a great day and hope for a large turnout," wrote the VFW.
In case of rain, there will be a smaller ceremony at the Avon Senior Center at 11 a.m. with limited attendance.
Holiday closings
Meanwhile, town officials have announced the holiday closures related to Memorial Day weekend.
All schools, town offices, public works, the senior center, the landfill, and the Avon Free Public Library will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.
The landfill will be open during regular hours (7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) on Saturday, May 25, and the library will be open on Saturday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
