Avon's New History Museum Open For Business
Following a successful grand opening earlier this month, the new Avon History Museum is open all year round on Sunday afternoons.

AVON, CT — With its successful ribbon-cutting earlier this month, the new Avon History Museum is officially open and ready to welcome visitors.
The Avon History Museum, 8 E. Main St. (Route 44), is open year-round on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
It is a fully renovated, 1823 one-room schoolhouse that "has been transformed into a modern museum," according to the Avon Historical Society.

Schoolhouse No. 3 was originally built in the geographic center of Avon on Country Club Road, where the Avon Free Public Library stands today.
The historical society hosted a successful grand opening ribbon-cutting on Labor Day, Sept. 1.

"It was wonderful to see many families enjoying the grounds and learning about our local history inside," wrote the historical society in a post-opening announcement.
The climate-controlled museum is free to visit, is self-guided, and has a small gift shop.
"We encourage you to bring your family, friends, or out-of-town visitors to this new tourist attraction in the heart of the historic center of Avon," wrote the historical society.
