Committee Formed to Monitor Preschool Program

Parents in Avon recently expressed concerns about how the program was run this year.

The committee will investigate how children are assessed before being admitted to the program and will also monitor the program throughout the 2015-16 school year. Regular reports to the board of education will be part of the committee’s responsibilities.

Parents recently expressed concerns about how the program was run this year. They stated that it had been well-run in the past, but that changes made this year have caused problems.

Changes included a resignation of a teacher, the attendance of students through the Open Choice program, a new location, and also changes with timing, schedules, and tuition.

There were 51 children in the preschool this year, which mixes children with disabilities with peers who are not disabled. At least 44 are expected when school starts in the fall.
