AVON, CT — A driver is dead in connection with a crash in which his car left the road, struck a tree and caught fire, according to police.

Officers responded around 3:15 a.m. Sunday to Old Farms and Tillotson roads after receiving a crash notification from an Apple Watch, police said, adding they found a 2020 Acura MDX fully engulfed in flames.

Police believe the Acura was traveling west on Old Farms Road at a high rate of speed and that it left the road, hitting the tree, authorities said. The Avon Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the blaze, according to that department.
