Extreme Heat Alert Issued In Avon, Shelters To Open
With a major heat wave expected to strike Sunday, June 22, Avon officials have announced its extreme heat protocols.

AVON, CT — Local officials have enacted severe hot weather protocols, which start Sunday, June 22, as the area is expected to experience its first major heat wave of 2025.
With extreme hot weather in the forecast beginning next week, the town is designating the Avon Senior Center and the Avon Free Public Library as cooling centers.

Temperatures will easily exceed 90 and approach 100, with that mark being eclipsed at times and the heat index making if feel worse.
Cooling centers will be available for any resident seeking relief from the extreme heat and humidity beginning Monday, June 23.

The Avon Senior Center is located at 635 West Avon Road, and staff can be reached at (860) 675-4355 with questions.
The cooling center will be available Monday, June 23, through Wednesday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Avon Free Public Library is located at 281 Country Club Road, and staff can be reached at (860) 673-9712 with questions.
That cooling center will be available Monday, June 23, through Wednesday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
