Heat Wave Alert Issued In Avon
The Town of Avon Monday urged folks to be safe during the expected heat wave this week and seek a cooling center if necessary.

AVON, CT — Local officials Monday announced hot weather protocols for the Town of Avon due to the expected heat wave this week.

The town's hot weather protocols will be in place from noon Tuesday, June 18, through noon Sunday, June 23.
Part of those protocols include opening town cooling centers for those in the community who need a place to cool off.

"With very hot and humid temperatures in the weather forecast this week, the town is designating the Avon Senior Center and the Avon Free Public Library as cooling centers which will be available for any resident seeking relief from the extreme heat and humidity," wrote the Town of Avon in an announcement.
Avon's cooling centers are:
• The Avon Senior Center at 635 West Avon Road and staff can be reached at 860-675-4355 with questions. Its cooling center will be available Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• The Avon Free Public Library is at 281 Country Club Road and staff can be reached at 860-673-9712 with questions. Its cooling center will be available Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Temperatures are expected to reach well into the 90s all week long and, when combined with forecasted high humidity, it could feel much warmer.
