New Bank, Restaurant Buildings Approved In Avon
The Avon Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a permit allowing for construction of a new bank building and a multi-restaurant site.
AVON, CT — The local development scene stands to grow a bit in Avon, with recent zoning board approval allowing for a bank building and a commercial building for two or three restaurants.
The Avon Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved June 27 a special permit application for a 4,500-square-foot commercial building and a 2,000-square-foot bank building.
Zoned in a commercial-retail zone, the projects for 182-186 W. Main St. are in appropriately zoned areas, so a special permit was all that was required by the zoning board.

While no specific clients have been unveiled yet, it is expected one of the buildings is for a bank and the commercial building could serve two or three clients, with tentative plans calling for small-size restaurants there, according to town officials.
Plans for the location include outdoor dining options for whatever eateries move into Avon.

If acquired and built by the applicants — Michael and Joan Gould — the site would also require 98 parking spaces.
Avon Director of Planning and Development Hiram Peck III Tuesday complimented the applicants and architects behind the planned development.
"They've done a nice job designing that building," Peck said.
He said the commercial building could facilitate two or three different "small" restaurants, perhaps independent eateries, but no formal contracts/leases have been announced yet.
Peck did say the bank building is expected to be a People's Bank branch.
