Regional Health Agency Class To Help Folks Prevent Suicides

AVON, CT — The regional health department serving several towns in the Farmington Valley area will host a special workshop on Wednesday that could help someone else save a life.
The Farmington Valley Health District is conducting a "QPR" workshop that aims to prevent someone from suicide who may be suffering from a mental health emergency.
It will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road, Avon.

The Canton-based health department serves the towns of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, East Granby, Farmington, Granby, Hartland, New Hartford, and Simsbury.
"QPR" is an acronym for "question, persuade, and refer," which is a means for people to handle someone who says they are thinking of killing or harming themselves.

Wednesday's free workshop will be conducted by FVHD community health/program director Justine Ginsberg.
