Suspect Charged In Connection With Fatal Avon Crash: APD

The February accident claimed the life of a 48-year-old Barkamsted woman.

AVON, CT — Local police said Tuesday they have charged a 63-year-old man in connection with a fatal accident in Avon last February.

According to the Avon Police Department, Timothy Preiser, 63, was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle; traveling unreasonably fast; and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Preiser, who police said was officially charged Oct. 9, was taken to Hartford Superior Court Oct. 9 and initially held on $245,000 bond.

According to court records, the bond was reduced to $40,000 and he's been released from custody and he will appear in court Nov. 6.

Police said Preiser was operating a Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling north on Waterville Road Feb. 20, when it entered the southbound lane.

That's when it collided with a Chevrolet Tahoe being driven by Jill Ayers, 48, of Barkhamsted, who died following injuries sustained in the accident.

Police said Preiser turned himself in after a warrant was sought for his arrest.

"The Avon Police Department would like to thank the men and women of the North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Team for their thorough investigation as well as the Hartford State's Attorney Office," wrote the APD.

"The Avon Police Department continues to send its condolences to the Ayers Family."
