AVON, CT — If simply being a courteous, law-abiding motorist isn't enough motivation to watch yourself while driving in Avon, the local police's announcement Thursday should do the trick.

The Avon Police Department Wednesday said it will be increasing shifts earmarked for speed enforcement and traffic violations.

The increased enforcement operation started on Wednesday, Feb. 26, and they will be ongoing through May 30, though police are always on the lookout for speeders.

Specifically, the APD said it will monitor traffic on "high risk and, often, complained about roadways."

While all traffic violations will be enforced, APD Lt. Rodney Williams, the department's patrol division commander, said speed enforcement operations will represent much of the activity.

"The Avon Police Department's objectives for the HRRR grant are to increase awareness of the dangers of speeding through education and enforcement in highly traveled areas," wrote Williams.
