Volunteers Needed To Rid Avon Park Of Invasive Plants

Several area organizations, including Avon's rec department, are collaborating on the special work day slated for later this week.

AVON, CT — Volunteers are being sought this week to help the community clean up a beloved park in Avon and rid it of invasive plant species.

The multi-organizational initiative at the Fisher Meadows recreation site, 800 Old Farms Road, will take place on Friday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m.

This event is a collaboration between the Avon Recreation & Parks Department, Farmington River Watershed Association, Avon Land Trust, and Eastern Connecticut State University Botanist Dr. Bryan Connolly.

"We’re looking for volunteers to help protect Fisher Meadows by participating in an invasive plant removal workday," reads an event announcement.

Organizers said this is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the local environment.
