Berlin 11 All-Stars Earn Shot At Title

Mike Giove's two-run home run leads locals to 6-4 victory.

 

The Berlin 11-year old All Stars were victorious over Edgewood Little League Friday night to advance them to the championship game for District 5. Berlin and Edgewood had a great battle that was decided by a Mike Giove two run homer in the bottom of the sixth with two outs. Berlin won 6-4.

Berlin took an early 2-0 lead on a David Biscoglio first inning two-run home run. Edgewood scored two in the third. Berlin would again score in the fourth after a Ryan Hyde double. Sammy Capodice put the ball in play on a 3rd baseman throwing error, Hyde scored. Capodice advanced to second. Malachi Burby drove in Capodice with an RBI single.

Edgewood scored in the fifth on a fielder's choice and again in the sixth on a throwing error. The score was tied entering the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Burby hit a flare over the shortstop on a 2-2 count. Giove drove the next pitch over the center field fence for the win.

Burby started the game on the hill for Berlin pitching three complete innings giving up just two walks and fanning two. Biscoglio entered the game in the fourth and allowed just two hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Berlin will play the winner of tomorrow's McCabe Waters/Edgewood game on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Southington West for the District 5 banner.
