Berlin Firefighters Endure Hectic Week
Two fiery vehicle accidents and a threatening brush fire kept the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department extremely busy the past week.

BERLIN, CT — The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department is catching its collective breath at week's end after a hectic week of battling dramatic fires at a residence and on two busy roadways.
Volunteer firefighters and local police tended to three separate incidents this week that involved heavy flames but, thankfully, no serious injuries.
• At 12:38 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, the BVFD rushed to Windy Knoll Drive for what was believed to be a structure fire at a residence.

According to firefighters, the caller said the brush had caught fire near the home.
Thankfully, the blaze didn't extend beyond the home's siding, and the homeowner was able to control the fire with a garden hose before the BVFD arrived, firefighters said.

"The home was able to be reoccupied and no injuries were reported," wrote the BVFD.
• On Tuesday afternoon, April 29, the BVFD tended to a fiery, three-car automobile crash on Route 9 near Christian Lane in Berlin, posting dramatic images of the vehicles in flames.
According to the BVFD, the accident occurred when three vehicles collided on the state highway, resulting in the road's closure until about 5:15 p.m. that day.
The BVFD said two of the vehicles sustained "heavy damage" from the fire, and one occupant reported minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
• On early Tuesday morning, April 29, firefighters from Berlin rushed to Chamberlin Highway for a fiery crash there.
The department said the single-vehicle crash occurred in the 1600 block of the roadway, with a single occupant taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Chamberlin Highway was closed between Southington and Orchard roads.
