Berlin PD's Rural Roadway Crackdown Nets Results

Berlin police participated in the state's High Risk Rural Roads Program,​ allowing cops to enforce traffic laws on less-trafficked streets.

BERLIN, CT — The results are in, and a recent crackdown on dangerous driving on rural roads by Berlin police has netted results.

This spring, the Berlin Police Department participated in the High Risk Rural Roads (HRRR) Program, a grant-funded collaboration between the state Department of Transportation and State and local police.

It targeted rural roadways, roads that often feature less traffic, but dangerous driving with catastrophic results.

The grant allowed the BPD to increase traffic enforcement on rural roads in town from March 1 to May 30, during which 337 additional motor vehicle stops were conducted.

Of those, 259 speeding tickets were issued, eight uninsured motorists were stopped, and 1 fugitive was apprehended.

In addition, police said the grant funded the purchase of four new Stalker DSR 2X radar units for its cruisers, increasing the BPD's traffic enforcement capabilities.
