Berlin Police Department Shares Results Of DUI Stop

Eighteen cars are towed from checkpoint.

 

A Field Sobriety Checkpoint was set from 6 p.m. on August 8 until midnight on  the southbound side of the Berlin Turnpike south of Deming Road.

A total of 1492 vehicles were directed through the checkpoint during the detail where vehicles were briefly detained and interviewed by officers. Of the 1492 vehicles passing through the checkpoint 26 motorists were flagged by the contact officers for DUI testing or other investigative interviews. The results are as follows.

Number of arrests and charges (23):

  • Four (4) motorists were cited for suspended registrations for operating motor vehicles without insurance.
  • Twelve (12) motorists were cited for operating unregistered motor vehicles.
  • One (1) motorist was cited for misuse of marker plates, operating an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.
  • Two (2) motorists were cited for failure to renew registration.
  • One (1) motorist was cited for failure to secure a child in a proper restraint system.
  • One (1) motorist was arrested for being a fugitive from Meriden.
  • One (1) motorist was cited for operating a vehicle while license was suspended.
  • One (1) motorist was cited for operating a vehicle without a license.
  • Eighteen (18) motor vehicles were towed.
