Berlin To Taxpayers Next Week: Pay Up
The Town of Berlin is mailing out tax bills on Monday, June 30, with folks having a month to pay them or risk late fees.

BERLIN, CT — Next week, Berlin and other towns will gear up to celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.
And that week in Berlin, folks will also receive something that played a major role in how that holiday came to be — a tax bill.
Of course, Berlin officials don't want a revolution. They just want folks to pay their taxes.

The Berlin Revenue Collection Office will mail tax bills on Monday, June 30. As part of the process, the office that day will close early at 1 p.m.
The first installment of real estate, personal property, and motor vehicle taxes on the Oct. 1, 2024, grand list are due and payable on July 1, though taxpayers have until the end of the month to avoid late fees.

Payments may be made:
- In the Dropbox outside door No. 3 at Berlin Town Hall.
- Online, following a link on the town's website.
- Through the U.S. Postal Service.
Payments received by 1 p.m.on Aug. 1 or with a USPS postmark of Aug. 1, 2025 (or earlier) will be considered on time.
The tax bills will arrive after the Berlin Town Council unilaterally adopted a budget for 2025-26, even though voters said "no" twice — a legal proceeding allowed in the town charter.
The new mill rate, adopted by Berlin's finance board, is 30.65, which is only 0.44 mills larger than the tax rate last year.
For the average home in Berlin assessed at $345,000, it means a tax hike of $151.80 compared to the tax bill of a year ago.
