Letter To The Editor: VFW's Response To Skate Park Proposal

The town council held a recent informational session on a skate park for the Berlin Veteran’s Memorial Park. The council will make the final decision since the Parks and Recreation Commission has failed to find a suitable location.  The council and Parks and Recreation consider Berlin Veteran’s Memorial Park to be their best location. 

Unfortunately, this decision lacks the perspective of how Berlin’s veterans have trained, fought and some sadly gave with their lives for the freedoms enjoyed by all. Their sacrifice can be felt as you walk the park and view the monuments.  And there will be more monuments as time goes by. Our veterans know of this sacrifice firsthand and use the park to reflect. 

The skate park should be built elsewhere. It is disrespectful from a veteran’s perspective and diminishes the fine efforts of Berlin’s Economic Development Commission in developing the town green.
