Popular Berlin Eatery With Hartford Roots Shutters
Located on the Berlin Turnpike after years in downtown Hartford, the burger/steak sandwich/chicken restaurant closed on Saturday.
BERLIN/HARTFORD, CT — It was a sad weekend for lovers of a popular and award-winning burger restaurant in Berlin, as they served their final beef patty and cheesesteak.
Earlier this month, the owners of The Boss Grill, 244 Berlin Turnpike, Berlin, announced they were closing.
As inventory wound down since the Sept. 6 closing announcement, the eatery — founded in 2015 in Hartford, but moved to Berlin amid the pandemic — scaled back operations, eventually doing online sales only.

Last Saturday, Sept. 16, The Boss officially shut down operations, a difficult decision for the owners, but one they said had to be made.
"This is mainly due to increasing health issues with both ourselves and immediate family members," wrote Boss' owners on its website. "It is time we take a step back and focus on our family."

Though relatively new to the Berlin restaurant scene, The Boss had a loyal following of folks who loved to dine on the wide array of burgers, steak and chicken sandwiches as well as other fare.
The Boss grew from a "mobile restaurant" in which demand was so great for their food, a "brick-and-mortar" site was sought, according to the eatery's online history.
That site was State House Square in downtown Hartford in 2015, where The Boss served breakfast and lunch until 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic prompted that area's closure and the temporary closure of The Boss Grill.
It also forced The Boss to find a new home, bringing it to its current location in Berlin.
While the world health crisis and the accompanying fiscal impacts have caused many eateries to shut down since, personal health crises are what prompted The Boss' difficult decision to shutter.
"Thank you for your continued support and your patronage, we will miss you, our loyal customers and friends," wrote The Boss' owners on its website.
In recent days, The Boss was selling off its inventory, including restaurant fixtures and stockpiles of its famous "Boss Sauce."
