Berlin ended the day with seven all-conference performers and seven Conference Champions.  Catherine Voelpel was conference champion in both the 400m, 200m and was part of the winning 4x400m relay.  Alex Carbonell was the 800m champion, 400m runner-up to Voelpel and part of the winning 4x400m relay. Freshman Kristen Madeia was seeded third in the 1,600m but ran a strategically perfect race to get the surprise win. In the process she lowered her career best time to 5:28. Kristen was also part of the 4x400m relay. Kate Piotrowicz was winner in the discus and third in the shot. She had a great regular season only dropping one competition but rebounded well and came out on top today. Liz Orsini completed her undefeated season in Pole Vault.  She cleared 7-6" to get the win by a foot and a half.

Freshman Taylor Lupini tied for second in the High Jump at 4-10. She has battled a few nagging  injuries throughout the year but has come on strong as of late. Senior Kaylene Sylvain was the final piece of the winning 4x400m relay.  Kaylene was in a boot with a stress fracture for the first month of the season.  She was frustrated by how tough it is to come back from an injury like that. But, she has really focused on the relay and dropped her time down to where the team can be very successful at not only the State MM meet but also the State Open.

"After the career she has had here at Berlin she really deserved to be all-conference and I am happy she got it," Berlin coach Steve Soucy said.

A few other noteworthy performances: the 4x800m Relay team of Stef Parillo, Nicole Sylvain, Nicole Grieco and Kaylene Sylvain finished in second place.  Shannon Mahoney finished third in long jump and fourth in triple jump. Kristen Madeia finished in third place in the 800m and Stef Parillo finished in fourth.

BOY'S TRACK

The boys team was led by Connor Hilbie who won the 1,600 and 3,200 championships. Vishnu Patel came in fourth in the 300 hurdles and Brendan McLarty was fifth in the 800.

GIRL'S GOLF

Berlin wins two

The Berlin girl's golf team won a tri-match against Northwest Catholic and previously undefeated Avon Tuesday at the Blue Fox Run Golf Course in Avon.  Final scores, Berlin 170, Avon 178 and Northwest Catholic 181. Berlin's record improves to 14-1, Avon is now 18-1 and Northwest is 10-6-1.

Julia Kemmling led the way for the Lady Redcoats once again. Her one over par 37 was good for medalist honors, the tenth time this season she has earned that distinction. Rounding out the Berlin scoring were Emily-Anne Deutsch and Ashley D'Attilio with a pair of 44's.  Victoria Fagan and Emily Stickel both contributed 45's.

Berlin is in action next on Wednesday at Timberlin in an important conference match against New Britain.
