Trio Charged In February Theft Of Gas Station ATMs: Berlin PD

Two suspects are from Bridgeport, with a third from Ansonia, police said Friday.

BERLIN, CT — Local police Friday announced three suspects have been charged in connection with two February incidents at local gas stations in which one ATM was stolen and another nearly stolen.

According to the Berlin Police Department, two Bridgeport men and an Ansonia resident were taken into custody Thursday, March 27, after a warrant was issued for their arrests.

The BPD identified the three suspects as: Francisco Ayala, 24, of Lester Street, Ansonia; Donnie James, 22, of Seaview Avenue, Bridgeport; and Edgar Crespo, 34, of Central Avenue, Bridgeport.

All three suspects were charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, two counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief.

All three suspects were being held on a $300,000 bond each, police said.

According to the BPD, on Feb. 5 an overnight burglary occurred at the Mobil Gas Station at 1376 Berlin Turnpike.

Police said the trio of suspects attempted to steal an ATM, but were unsuccessful.

Then, police said, on Feb. 20, the same suspects committed an overnight burglary at the Pit Stop Gas Station, 458 Berlin Turnpike, Berlin, where an ATM was successfully stolen.
