Upon Further Review Another Successful Relay

For 24 hours, 10 a.m. Saturday morning until 10 a.m. Sunday morning the town of Berlin and people from surrounding communities gathered together to rally at the Berlin Relay for Life.

There were times when the track at the Berlin Fairgrounds looked less crowded this year but it may have appeared that way because the track was made bigger and walkers were more spread out.

In the end, the DJ was entertaining, the singers and bands that played were fun and talented and as usual the survivor's lap and lunch and luminaria ceremony were moving and emotional.

"The money is still coming in so it is a little hard to tell but as of now we are over $85,000," Berlin Relay for Life co-chair Jen Chant said. "However we fully expect to reach our goal of $113,000 because we can keep taking donations until the cutoff in August."

Chant said things could not have gone much smoother over the 24-hour Relay.

"I was so pleased at how the day went," Chant said. "The weather was perfect.  It is always great to see the community come together for such a worthwhile cause.   

"My personal highlight of the event was the Survivor Lap. It is so touching to see those who are fighting this disease or have beaten this disease walk together around the track together. To me, it shows the strength and courage all of the survivors have, no matter what stage of the fight they are in."
