What's The Buzz? Stinging Bugs Invade Berlin Town Hall

The Town of Berlin had to bring in an expert to take care of a large nest of aggressive, stinging insects this week at the town hall.

Looking like either a space alien or a fencer, this technician for Advanced Pest Control was able to rid a white-faced hornet's nest at Berlin Town Hall earlier this week.

BERLIN, CT — There's always a lot of buzz coming from Berlin Town Hall.

But earlier this week, the buzz wasn't so welcome.

"You never know what will come up at Berlin Town Hall," wrote the Town of Berlin on Tuesday, Sept. 9. "Most visitors are welcomed while others need to be removed."

So who were these visitors?

According to the town, they were a swarm of angry white-faced hornets that had built a large nest on the south slope of the property.

Anyone who has run into these buggers knows they usually mean business and can attack and sting with a level of ferocity unmatched in the natural world.

Pestworld.org reports that these hornets — often called 'bald-baced hornets' — are not true hornets at all, but more related to that common New England fall scourge ... the yellow jacket.

White and black in color, these flying stingers are not to be messed with.

Doing so on behalf of the town was Advanced Pest Control out of Wethersfield, who sent in someone to carefully remove the massive hornet's nest that was in a street light there.

"We can't thank Jessie enough from Advanced Control for coming out so quickly and taking care of this," wrote the town.
