Branford Man Fires One Shot Into The Air: Police

Police said they were responding to "a large group yelling at each other and making threats..."

BRANFORD, CT — A Branford man, Gerard McAfee, is accused of firing one shot into the air during a disturbance on Saturday night, police said.

At 11 p.m., police responded to a loud disturbance involving a large group yelling at each other and making threats in the parking lot of 11 Mill Plain Road, police said.

While officers responded, police were informed there were shots fired, police added.

Upon arrival, officers determined no one was injured and that there was one shot fired into the air, police said.

Police said McAfee was taken into custody and charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a weapon, risk of injury to a child, first-degree reckless endangerment, and second-degree breach of peace.

He was released after posting $300,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
