BRANFORD, CT - Anybody who lives and/or drives in Branford knows that one of the busiest areas in town is coming on or off the Cedar Street exit/entrance near Exit 54 onto nearby Main Street

Now, the Branford Board of Police Commissioners is asking the state to do an analysis whether anything can be done to alleviate the traffic congestion.

It is a state issue - not a town one - the police commisioners explained, because the state has jurisdiction on Main Street because it is a state road.

The commissioner said they aren't sure what can be done to alleviate the back-up in traffic but will be asking the state to check whether anything can be done to the timing of lights near the exits to improve traffic flow.

One issue of concern is that, the commissioners explained, is that there is a condominium complex - Cedar Knolls - near the highway exit where the traffic backs up right next to - making it difficult for people who live in the condos to either exit or enter into the complex.
