Field Hockey Is Their Superpower: Meet The Unvanquished WIS Team

BRANFORD, CT — Triumphant. Victorious. Unconquered. Unvanquished. For two seasons in a row, the Francis Walsh Intermediate School's Hornets field hockey team has been undefeated.

Led by Head Coach Kristin Liguori and Assistant Coach Rudy Gosteli, and with a 14-0 record for the 2022 season, the team clinched the Shoreline Champion Title. Team captains Lilly Panuccio and Ella Jumps "provided excellent leadership" and helped the team score 55 goals for the season, Liguori said. The team "proudly"completed 12 out of 14 games as shutouts.

"Our team has been an incredible force in my two years as their coach," Liguori said. "I truly believe the secret to having a success program starts with the relationships you have with your athletes."

Liguori, a WIS art teacher, said she "believes in them in and out of the classroom."

"Most importantly, they have an understanding that each game is earned, not given," she said.

Liguoti added that she and Gosteli are "very fortunate to have a group of girls that are super athletic, coachable, determined and don't settle for anything but the best"

"We look forward to watching our program grow and couldn't be prouder of this little force that we get to work with."
