Teen, 16, Charged in Assault on Female Jogger: Branford Police

The juvenile has been charged with sexual assault and breach of peace, police said.

BRANFORD, CT — A 16-year-old juvenile has been arrested in connection with the assault of a jogger that took place in Branford on Tuesday evening on Mill Creek Road, police said.

Branford police said police detectives executed a search and seizure warrant at the juvenile’s home. The teen was taken into custody and is being detained at the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.

The juvenile is charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and second-degree breach of peace.

At 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, a women was running in the area of Mill Creek when she was assaulted by a white male in his late teens wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, Branford police said.

The victim was running in the area of Harbor Street, Reynolds Avenue, Driscoll Road, and Maple Street.

In a statement after the arrest, police said they "would like to thank the public for their cooperation and patience as the case was investigated and request that citizens continue to report suspicious activity."

The teen's name will not be released due to his age. Within minutes of police sharing the news of the arrest on social media, there have been dozens and dozens of comments praising the Police Department for its quick work in solving the case.

"Awesome job by one of the best police department in the USA. Keep up the awesome job," one local resident said on Facebook.
