Tabor Removed: Where Should New Public Works Site Go Now?

The new Board of Selectman unanimously voted to remove the site from consideration. But now: Where should the new DPW site go?

At its first order of business, Branford's new Republican-controlled Board of Selectmen officially removed the controversial Tabor Drive site from consideration for a new Department of Public Works, according to a New Haven Register report.

The move came during the board's first meeting Wednesday. Newly elected First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove had made the removal a campaign promise this fall.

The vote Wednesday night was unanimous, with Second Selectman and fellow Republican Joe Higgins and Third Selectman Bruce Storm, a Democrat, supporting Cosgrove's motion, according to the NHR report.

The Tabor site, which sits in a residential neighborhood, was seized by the town of Branford via eminent domain in 2004.

The DPW, with its former garage demolished to build the new fire headquarters on Route 1, is now renting a facility along Route 139 until a new facility can be built by the town.

With Tabor now removed from consideration, where do you think the town's new DPW should be built? What would be the best location for the new facility in Branford?
