Armed Fugitive - Stratford Man - Arrested In Bridgeport: Police

He had previously escaped from a Department of Corrections halfway house, police said.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Police said on Saturday that they "made a high risk arrest of an armed fugitive who escaped from a Department of Corrections halfway house in New Haven earlier this month."

Officers from the Bridgeport Police Patrol Division and Emergency Services Unit on Thursday morning made the arrest, police said.

Juwaun Terry, 27, of Stratford, was taken into custody after fleeing out of the second floor rear door of a multi-family house on Highland Avenue at approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, police said. At the time of his arrest, he was considered an escapee from state custody, police said.

Police recovered a 9 millimeter Glock handgun that Terry discarded in the house before fleeing, police said.

Terry is a convicted felon and is on the State's Deadly Weapon Offender Registry, police said.

Terry was charged with a total of seven weapons crimes, including criminal possession of firearm, possession of a high capacity magazine and violation of the State Deadly Weapon Offender Registry. He was also charged with violation of a protective order and interfering with an officer.

In addition, Juwaun Terry was found to have multiple active warrants from other jurisdictions, police added.

Terry was subsequently returned to the custody of the State Department of Corrections following his arrest and processing at the Bridgeport Police headquarters.
