Bridgeport Residents Ejected From Car After Rollover Crash In Shelton: State Police

State police said the vehicle was traveling on Route 8 in Shelton when it struck an embankment, rolled over and hit a utility pole.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Two Bridgeport residents were ejected from a vehicle that struck an embankment, rolled over and hit a utility pole Thursday morning on Route 8 in Shelton, according to state police.

In an accident information summary, state police said the Honda Civic EX was traveling in the left lane of three travel lanes on Route 8 northbound, in the area of Exit 11, around 9:30 a.m. when it veered toward the right across all other lanes for an unknown reason and entered the right shoulder.

The Honda continued through the right shoulder, struck an embankment, rolled over and hit a utility pole, then continued north before coming to a rest in the right lane on its roof, according to state police.

The driver and passenger, both residents of Bridgeport, were ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries, state police said. They were both taken to Bridgeport Hospital.

Route 8 northbound was closed for approximately four hours in the area of Exit 11 as a result of the crash, state police said.

Troopers are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact state police at 203-393-4200, or via email at Sergio.campbell@ct.gov.

State police also ask anyone who was driving through the area at the time of the crash and may have recorded the incident on a dashboard camera to contact Troop 1 in Bethany.
