Deported Convicted Felon Pleads Guilty to Re-Entering U.S.

The man was arrested in Bridgeport on drug charges after he illegally re-entered the country.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A man from the Dominican Republic plead guilty to re-entering the country after he was deported, according to U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly. Luis Manuel Rodriguez Burgos, 36, plead guilty to one count of illegal reentry of a removed alien. He reentered the U.S. in 2015 and was arrested in Bridgeport for narcotics offenses

Authorities say Rodriguez Burgos as a lawful permanent resident in 1995, but was convicted in Arizona of transportation of narcotics. He was deported back to the Dominican Republic in 2006. A law enforcement officer encountered him and told immigration officials, and he was deported again in 2012.

He plead guilty to sale of certain illegal drugs and conspiracy, and is due for sentencing in October. He faces up to 10 years in prison on the federal immigration offense and is due for sentencing on Oct. 18.
