Canton Police Warn Motorists To Get Snow/Ice Off Your Vehicles

Failure to do so is not only unsafe, it is against the law.

CANTON, CT — Local police are warning Canton motorists to take a little bit more time when driving in the winter and clear their vehicles of snow and ice.

"Doing so helps prevent crashes, protects other motorists, and keeps our roadways safe for everyone," wrote the Canton Police Department recently.

And it is against the law not to do so.

Connecticut General Statute §14-252a requires all drivers to remove snow and ice from the entire vehicle, including the roof, hood, and trunk, before operating on public roadways.

The penalties for violating the statute are:

• Minimum fine: $75

• If dislodged snow or ice causes property damage or injury: $200–$1,250
