Cheshire's Historic Button Company Goes Green

Historic ball and socket business is honored for 21st Century applications.

OGS Technologies Inc., the parent company of Cheshire's original Ball & Socket Manufacturing Company, was named a GreenCircle Award winner today for its efforts to protect the environment.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection recognized OGS and 36 other nominees for their voluntary efforts to reduce their impact on the environment.

"The actions of all of our award winners are making Connecticut a better place for all of us to live and work in everyday,” DEEP Commission Dan Esty said in a statement.

OGS, located at 1855 Peck Lane, was recognized for reducing the amount of water used in its plating and cleaning operations.

In 1994, OGS purchased the equipment and other items of the Ball & Socket Manufacturing Company that had operated on West Main Street. The historic factory building is now for sale.
