CHS Boys CC Teams Strong Showing At 1st Meet on 9-9-23 In Wilton

CHS BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS STRONG SHOWING AT THE WILTON CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL MEET ON 9-8-23

The Cheshire High School Boys Varsity Cross Country Team won 9th Place finishing in the Top 10 Teams at the 34th Wilton Cross Country Invitational Meet in Wilton on Saturday, September 9, 2023. They received 229 points out of the 20 teams that competed that day. The top finisher for the Rams was Daniel D’Souza coming in 22nd place with a time of 17:54. He was followed by Tyler Caron 34th time 18:29, Jack Lengyel 41st 18:45, James Boyd 42nd 18:45, and Brian Krzanowski 90th 20:34.

Head Coach Pam Gunneson commented about her Rams varsity team’s showing. “I am very happy with our finish, it was very tough weather conditions to race in. The boys ran smart and didn't overextend themselves. Daniel D'Souza had an excellent run finishing 22nd overall and with our 1 to 4 runners finishing within a minute of each other. I know that our 5th runner can finish closer to our top 4 runners and will bring our team much success,” stated Gunneson.

New to the Rams Varsity Cross Country team are sophomores Zach Chasen and Hanan Talipan - Pinedo both had great finishes at last year’s Manchester’s Wickham Park Cross Country Invitational on October 8th. Both student-athletes also did well at the SCC Divisional Championship meet on October 19, 2022 finishing in the Top 10; Talipan-Pinedo finished in 5th Place & Chasen 7th Place in the freshmen race. Coach Gunneson stated this about her two new additions to the varsity team. “I am thrilled that Zach Chasen and Hanan Talipan - Pinedo were able to compete on our varsity squad, they have worked hard to get there.” At Saturday’s meet Talipan-Pinedo finished with a time of 20:43.20; Chasen’s time was 20:46.90.

The Rams JV team also did well at Saturday’s meet coming in at #11 with 282 points according to unofficial results. Connor Rayball was the first student-athlete from CHS to cross the finish line with a time of 22:11.9. He was followed by Elias Vuorio time 23:03.2, Jeffrey Yam 23:22.3, Colin Daly 23:03.2, Domenic Martone 23:47.80, Matteo Dore 24:56.40, & Jack Wheelahan 24:58.10. Gunneson stated, “Our JV runners also had a great outing today. Connor Rayball ran in his first Cross Country meet today finishing first for the Rams followed by Elias Vuorio who is a new student from Finland.”

On the freshmen side Raine Ma was the first Ram to cross the finish line with a time of 8.46.1. coming in at #9. He was followed by Miquel Monreal #14 with a time of 8:56.00 and Joshua Lengyel time 10:35.30. “Raine Ma and Miquel Monreal also had great finishes in the freshman race displaying the hard work they put in over summer. I can't wait to see how well they can run in a 5K,” commented Gunneson.

The next event for the CHS Boys Cross Country Teams will be a home meet on Tuesday, September 12th at Cheshire Park against Guilford, Notre Dame West Haven, and Wilbur Cross. Race Time 4 p.m.
