Holiday Accidents Top 250 in Connecticut

Choose a designated driver for New Year's Eve celebrations. Check out these tips for a safe holiday.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds party-goers that the best way to stay safe during New Years festivities is to plan ahead and designate a sober driver before you head out to celebrate.

Nationally, about 10,500 people died in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes in 2010, according to the NHTSA.

The Connecticut State Police report 260 accidents occured in the four days surrounding Christmas with two fatalities and 36 DUI arrests.

State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said additional troopers will patrol the highways through New Year's Eve. "These  troopers are only a part of the team effort that will try to keep our highways and roadways safe," he said in a release.
