Water Main Break Causes Early Dismissal at Cheshire High

An old pipe and freezing temperatures cause pipe to burst Wednesday morning. School to dismiss at 10:45 a.m.

It's not a gushing torrent, but a water main break at early this morning will cause students to be dismissed at 10:45 a.m. today.

Management Services Director Vincent J. Masciana said workers found the break about 6 a.m. near the loading dock on the southeast side of the school.

"It's not as bad as a typical break. I attribute it to an old pipe and cold weather," Masciana said.

The water was "bubbling" out of the pipe Masciana said, causing workers to shut off water to the kitchen and cafeteria and most of the restrooms in that section of the school.

The water from the break drained into a nearby parking lot which is now iced over, Masciana said.
