25th Annual United Way Backpack Drive Supports Greater Danbury Kids in Need

Local sponsors donated $42,875 worth of school supplies and gift cards to help 245 Danbury area school children start the year off right.

DANBURY, CT — The United Way of Western Connecticut (UWWC) will host its 25th annual Back to School Drive to support families in the greater Danbury area. The Back to School Drive provides 245 school children with a backpack full of school supplies, as well as financial assistance for back to school clothes shopping.

The drive will take place rain or shine on Tuesday, August 16 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Shelter Rock School, 2 Crows Nest Lane, Danbury.

"This event is the signature project for area businesses to join together to advance volunteerism and help meet community needs. Our Back to School Drive in Danbury is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Kim Morgan, CEO of United Way of Western Connecticut. “This is a day that we pull together the generous resources in greater Danbury to assist families in need during a time that is meant to be exciting. The program alleviates the financial stress associated with getting a child ready for school and is one way that United Way assists hard-working families in Danbury that have difficulty making ends meet.”
