NAACP Debate Cancelled

The following announcement was submitted to Danbury Patch Friday afternoon from state Sen. Michael McLachlan, who is running for reelection in November against former state Assemblyman Jason Bartlett.

NAACP Debate Cancelled
"Senator Michael McLachlan announced this afternoon he is unable to participate in the scheduled NAACP debate due to a lack of agreement on the debate parameters. McLachlan was invited to a debate nearly three weeks ago and repeatedly asked organizers for details of the debate rules, topics, participants and time frame. A response came piecemeal in the last few days and the NAACP proposal is inconsistent with prior discussions. It is now less than twelve hours before the debate and the NAACP has not confirmed final parameters.
“I am very disappointed the NAACP was unable to keep their prior commitments and develop an acceptable debate format. Under those circumstances I will not attend their event. I will now return to previous commitments visiting constituents and speaking directly with voters about the important issues affecting the 24th Senate District.”

Senator Michael McLachlan is serving his second term in the Connecticut State Senate representing the 24th District – Danbury, New Fairfield, Sherman and Bethel.
