Danbury To Begin Flushing Hydrants: What's That Mean?

The City of Danbury Water Departm​ent's hydrant flushing will last approximately 9 weeks.

DANBURY, CT — The City of Danbury Water Department's annual fire hydrant flushing will begin Monday, April 7.

The process will be completed in approximately nine weeks, according to the DWD.

"Annual flushing of the hydrants is necessary to provide better quality water and fire protection. Customers may experience fluctuations in pressure and/or discoloration of their water during flushing," officials advise on the City website.

Residents who experience discolored water are advised to wait until workers leave their neighborhood, then run cold water tap until it clears. During periods of discoloration, postpone washing clothes and limit your use of hot water until the cold water clears.
