Danbury High Senior Awarded Scholarship

She was chosen among over 50 applicants.

DANBURY, CT — A local high school senior has been awarded a scholarship from an educational organization, the district announced Tuesday. Sonni Barrios, a senior at Danbury High School, was chosen among more than 50 applicants to receive a scholarship from EdAdvance.

She was chosen for her commitment to working with elementary school students.

“I loved working with the kids,” Barrios said in a statement. “It was a way for them to interact with things they are learning and reading in the books that the plays were based on.”

EdAdvance is one of the state's six Regional Educational Service Centers, and promotes the success of school districts. Barrios will attend Northeastern University in Bostion, and worked with Ellsworth Avenue School students on a drama presentation project.

“Everything I was interested in, there was a class,” Barrios said. “I’m now in a computer science class and building robots. It’s something I’ve never done. Being exposed to all these courses and opportunities, it makes me interested in learning more.”
