Danbury Seeking Police Officers

Danbury announced it is looking for new police officers and it will be taking applications on line.

Danbury will take applications for entry level police officers and for certified police officers starting now. The applications will only be accepted electronically.

"We're under-manned," said Capt. Thomas Wendel, public information officer with the department. Wendel was uncertain immediately how many people are being sought, and that arises from the fact the testing and hiring process can extend for up to two years. "It can take a year just to process someone and get them into the academy."

Wendel said the department expects some officers to retire, and the hiring list of applicants created by this opening of the list may be used, if it is extended, for two or more years.
