Home Show Continues Today

A home show at the west side campus of Western Connecticut State University continues today with raffles, drawings and ideas for people to improve their homes.

Staying warm and saving money were two common elements visible at the Western New England Home Show running this weekend in the Feldman Arena at Western Connecticut State University.

The show is designed to help homeowners with typical problems, such as lowering heating costs, renovating a home, painting, replacing windows, improving cabinets, adding stone paths to the lawn and other types of help from two dozen more exhibitors.

“There is so much money being spent on new roofs right now that don’t need it,” said John Mazur a principal with Green Energy Solutions in Danbury.

Green Energy Solutions offers people low-cost energy audits with support from the state Department of Public Utility Control. The goal of the audits is to help people lower their energy costs and make their homes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Depending on what the audit shows, the homeowers may be eligible for low interest loans and free low-energy equipment, like light bulbs and pipe insulation at no cost.

“There is sound building science behind it,” Mazur said.

Mazur said his firm doesn’t sell people any products before the customer has the results from the audit. Once the audit is complete, people can decide whether or not to do the required work on their home.

One visitor to the show, Bob Williams of Danbury, said he didn’t have any particular home improvement project in mind. He just wanted to see what was on display.
