Baby Found Behind Danbury Grocery Store Had Umbilical Cord Attached: Report

Police are asking the public for any information on the case, and are searching for the boy's mother.

DANBURY, CT — Police are seeking the public's help after a newborn baby boy was found behind a grocery store on Main Street Sunday, the department announced Tuesday. Officers found the baby boy behind the Zaytuna Grocery Store wrapped in clothing, and the baby was admitted to the Neo Natal Care Unit at Danbury Hospital. Detectives from the department's Special Victims Unit are working to find the mother of the baby boy and determine if she is okay.

According to a report from the News Times, the baby boy's umbilical cord was still attached when he was found, and emergency crews had to clamp down on the cord when he was found in the bushes behind the store. Citing authorities, the publication reported the newborn was in good condition Wednesday.

The department stated that officers responded to a call from a person who said they found a baby near the Polla Supermarket at 11:38 p.m., and were directed to the Zaytuna Grocery Store after arriving on scene. To sign up for Danbury breaking news alerts and more, click here.
