Patch Pick: Most Romantic Restaurant in Danbury

Of course this is completely subjective, but Della Francesca on Lake Avenue Ext. is the most romantic restaurant in Danbury.

The most romantic restaurant in Danbury is Della Francesca, 35 Lake Ave. Ext.

As you and I know, a decision like that is personal. What one person thinks is romantic another doesn’t see.

In a perfect world, a romantic restaurant has a dark interior, private-appearing tables, candles or very expensive tinted glass lamp shades and a very quiet crowd.  The people who wait on you know what they’re talking about and they appear at the right moments.

Here are the basics at Della Francesca. It’s northern Italian Cuisine, and the food is excellent. The wine list is long, pricey, of course, and the wine is excellent.

You know those Chiantis that remind you how much you love red wine? It’s there. About $9 a glass.

The wait staff hastens over, drops off a very tasty bruschetta

and a chunk of parmesan reggiano cheese, unasked. It’s served with excellent bread.

We ordered soup, pasta e fagioli, and it was great down to the last drop.

When the waiter discussed the entre specials, he sold them. I bought a double veal chop, and my wife ordered Vitello Martini.

He hadn’t memorized the specials in order. He knew them by heart, because when I asked him a question, he knew the answer.

I remember Karen’s order, because it was a thin slice of veal that without reservation was the perfect veal meal.

It was fork tender and the best veal I ever ate. Mine was a veal steak, essentially, and it was great, but Karen’s was simply the best veal I ever ate.
