Police Find Mother of Newborn Baby Abandoned in Danbury

BREAKING: Police say the investigation is still ongoing, but the mother of the baby left behind a grocery store has been found.

DANBURY, CT — The mother of a newborn baby found behind a grocery store on Main Street Sunday has been found and is being treated at Danbury Hospital, announced the police department Friday morning. Police did not reveal the identity of the mother, but said she was identified at 12:40 a.m.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to police.

"The Danbury Police Department would like to thank the media and the public who were integral in assisting us with this investigation," read a press statement Friday."Through the photographs and information which were disseminated by the media to the public, we were able to quickly identify the mother."

On Thursday, Police released photos of the clothing the baby was wrapped in as well as audio from the 911 call by the person who found the baby behind the Zaytuna Grocery Store. Emergency crews had to clamp down on the cord when he was found in the bushes behind the store. Police say the baby is still being evaluated at Danbury Hospital.
