In 3rd Year, 6-Town Traffic Enforcement Initiative Kicks Off
Since '22, East Haven, North Haven, North Branford, Branford, Guilford, Madison cops conducted 100s of stops issuing tickets, making arrests

EAST HAVEN, CT — Now in its third year, the multi-town traffic enforcement initiative that takes aim at making "roadways safer through enforcement and education," begins Wednesday in North Branford.
The program includes the towns of East Haven, North Haven, North Branford, Branford, Guilford and Madison, is focused on tackling what law enforcement says is the biggest quality-of-life complaints cops hear from residents: speeders, reckless drivers, aggressive drivers, impaired drivers, distracted drivers.
Begun in 2022, hundreds of vehicle stops have been made in all the towns with enforcement action including verbal warnings, infractions, misdemeanor arrests and criminal arrests.

When created, East Haven police Capt. Joseph M. Murgo explained that given "traffic complaints are consistently at the top of quality-of-life complaints," the goal is to address the "most common public safety issues affecting our communities."
The initiative will focus on one town at a time and plans on targeting specific roadways, chosen in part because of the number of complaints received and through the information learned from traffic crash data. In addition to speeders, officers will be on the lookout for aggressive driving, impaired driving, unregistered and / or uninsured vehicles, seatbelt violations and other common motor vehicle violations. The team will be utilizing a combination of LPR 900 License Plate Readers and LASER / Radar enforcement for speed detection, police said.
