I am but an ordinary East Haven citizen that lives directly in the flight path of Tweed New Haven Airport. I have lived within 2 blocks of the airport my whole life, spending many a day just looking at the planes when I was a child. I can't say that I was ever bothered by the noise and nothing on my walls or furniture ever moved (we have had solid houses, I would question anyone that says otherwise perhaps they need to have their homes evaluated by a structural engineer to see what the real issue is). When my parents brought their house in the center in the 1960's by the airport they did so for 2 reasons #1 it was close to the shore; #2 it was cheap because the airport was talking about expanding and they were not sure how much land they would need back then (they were talking about buying houses all the way 3 blocks in all directions). What happened is that we all absolutely fell in love with the area and have stayed our whole lives. The talk of the airport expanding has never really died down, so I am at a complete and utter loss as to why so many people have chosen to purchase so close to an airport that has always said it was going to expand and then complain about it. It's like buying a house next to railroad tracks and not expecting to hear trains.
Why am I explaining this, well it's because experts by nature have studied and have earned credentials that most of us ordinary citizens have not. I am no environmental expert but know that there has been more than one study done by real experts not the armchair quarterbacks I have seen shouting to be heard. (I guess that our country has become such that no one trusts the experts anymore and thinks that their education is enough to deem them an environmental expert or even a pilot as many have claimed they know all about flying airplanes, flight paths, redirected flights and what kind of runway is necessary to do so. I claim none of these.) What I do claim however is that with progress comes job creation, money into the community and other benefits. We have yet to see and certainly cannot predict what kind of job creation or additional revenue will be coming into our community. The naysayers will always naysay but I can say with certainty that they are not the only ones out there. Plenty of people are in favor of the expansion if for nothing else for safety, even small planes have trouble on the short runways at Tweed.
Yes, I have seen the people and their photos of Coe & Hemingway but that has flooded for years and years and I am not quite sure what it has to do with the actual expansion it hasn't changed with the words expansion although I think that the complainers like to believe Tweed is causing it. I do not think that the people running Tweed are blind. I believe they can see the flooding the same as you and I. I also believe that the problem with the flooding will be solved prior to any actual airport expansion. So, as the expert that I am not I will say that perhaps just build a bridge that goes over that portion of the roadway and let what's under it flood when the tides come in as that is basically what is causing the flooding.

Someone has to speak, not as an expert but to let others know there are a lot of us who are in complete favor of an expanded Tweed New Haven Terminal and airport. Here let me interject that I am saying nothing about Avelo because if they were to pull out, I would be in favor of a bigger airline coming in, if they were able to use the current runways or even expanded ones. I for one am in favor of Tweed New Haven Airport's expansion as are a lot of us who perhaps do not yell loud enough because we understand what growth means.
