Robert E. Schierholz Jr., 84, of Guilford, beloved husband of the late Rose DiLella Schierholz, passed away on December 9, 2025 surrounded by his family at CT Hospice. Loving father of Candice (John) Sette of Guilford and Ryan (Kimberly) Schierholz of Marlborough, CT. Grandfather of Anthony (Danielle) and Mia Sette, Brooke Freeman, and Logan and Nicholas Schierholz. Robert was born in New Haven on May 17, 1941 son of the late Robert E. and Pearl Asmus Schierholz Sr. Prior to his retirement, Robert worked for Sargent Assa Abloy as a supervisor. Robert served his country faithfully in the United States Navy. He was a lifetime fan of the NY Mets and NY Giants, in addition to both the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams. He loved spending time with his five grandchildren. Robert loved to travel (he loved to fly) especially to Orlando and Marco Island. He was an avid reader who could always be found with his nose buried in a book, the newspaper or some other sports media publication. He loved playing Pinochle; his ability to count cards gave him an unfair, comical advantage. He will be missed by his dogs, Murphy, Sawyer and Skylar. He enjoyed his famous triple decker PB&J sandwiches, reminiscing about his time in the Navy and going on his morning drives with “a cup of joe” while listening to oldies music. Robert was friends with everyone he met, and they always had fond words and memories for and about him. He was always the first to volunteer to go on every crazy ride at Universal Orlando, Disney World or any other amusement park. Robert’s favorite family vacations included California, Hawaii, Washington DC and cruising the Caribbean with his family.
