School Bus, Cars, Tractor Trailer Crash, 6 Students Injured

East Haven fire chief said a slow-speed crash between cars, tractor trailer and school bus left six students with minor injuries.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Fire and emergency medical services are on the scene of a school bus and tractor trailer accident on Hemingway Avenue.

East Haven Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli said it was a "slow-speed" four vehicle crash between two cars, a school bus and a tractor trailer.

Two people from the cars were taken to the hospital and of the 19 on board the bus, six are being taken to the hospital for "evaluation."

But Marcarelli said those injuries appeared to be "very minor."

Police and fire say to avoid Hemingway Avenue.

Marcarelli said that East Haven school officials are at the scene.

East Haven Police Lt. Joe Murgo said the accident happened at around 7:40 a.m. and added too that the injures to students are minor but they're being taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for further evaluation.

Hemingway Avenue is closed between Edward Street and Tyler Street.

Another bus is transferring the rest of the students over so they can get to school.

The accident remains under investigation.
