25 Dogs, 22 Cats Removed From 'Uninhabitable' Fairfield Home: Police
The animals were removed by the town's Animal Control and police departments.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Twenty-five dogs and 22 cats were removed from a Steep Hill Road home in Fairfield last week, as the town's Animal Control and police departments conduct an investigation into the "uninhabitable" conditions the animals were living under.
Fairfield police were alerted to the situation during the week of April 17, when a "concerned citizen" spotted a distressed dog roaming the Steep Hill Road area.
"The dog appeared to have been covered in feces and urine, having a general poor appearance," said Lt. Michael Paris said in a statement.

Authorities determined that the dog came from a Steep Hill Road home, and upon inspection found the other animals "were living in poor conditions inside of the home and needed to be removed."
No dead animals were found in the home, but three of the animals "are being treated at a local animal hospital for various conditions."

Paris did not disclose any information about the homeowner, but he said the investigation is "very active and ongoing."
"No arrest yet but possible," Paris said in an email to Patch. "The Town of Fairfield Health Department assisted the police in this case and at this point found that the home is uninhabitable."
