The turf field is one of several school infrastructure projects approved by the RTM aimed at improving or rebuilding district facilities. Construction is expected to be completed by midyear 2027.
"The long overdue construction of this turf field is about more than an investment in school athletics, it’s about investing in our entire community," said RTM Moderator Margaret Horton in a statement. "When not in use by students, it will be available for Parks and Recreation programs and other local organizations, providing a safe, durable, and reliable space for youth leagues, adult recreation, and community events. It will serve as a versatile gathering place that benefits residents of all ages."

Supporters of the project said the synthetic surface will provide consistent playing conditions, extend the usable athletic season and reduce long-term maintenance needs compared with natural grass. Artificial turf generally requires less upkeep during inclement weather and eliminates the need for regular watering, fertilization and reseeding.
"Our student-athletes deserve the same safe, high-quality facilities as their FCIAC counterparts," said RTM Majority Leader Michelle McCabe. "We’re addressing this disparity and leveling the playing field–literally. This new field will allow Fairfield Warde teams to train, compete, and enjoy a safe athletic experience like many of their peers."
Added RTM Minority Leader Peter Britton, "The new turf field will expand physical education opportunities, support after-school programs, and give our students a safe, high-quality space that promotes fitness, school pride, and engagement."
